Description

So, if you couldn't tell, I'm a fangirl. Always will be; fandoms come and go, but I will continue making swag and fanfic and all those things until my hands fall off. Then maybe I'll write some songs. Or transcription software will have reached the point of being reasonably usable or something.

This is Nine's dragon scale from "Grayscale," with a reference pic in the top right-hand corner. There were actually three versions of this scale: the first, which turned out bubbly and never got painted (if you want a really interesting finish on your polymer clay, mix some clay with water and coat the outside with that); the second version, which was the wrong shape but I thought it was right; and this one, painted after I looked at the smoothie picture again -- [link] -- which settled all of my qualms about the exact shape of the scale. The reference pic I used, btw, is [link]

I learned so many things from making this! First, I learned that you can mold polymer clay over ceramics or glass, bake it that way, and it will practically jump off the mold when you pry it up. Then I learned that enamel is really, really cheap at the craft store (like $3 a bottle), which is good because it was the only paint that came in "clear" and I needed the clear type to dilute the blue. Third, I learned that the only things that stick to enamel and metal are rubber cement (which would also have taken like fifty super-thick coats) and hot glue. As in, this is the only time in my life that Krazy Glue has failed me.

Also, please don't look at my hair. I'm getting it cut today or tomorrow. That isn't the real texture of my hair; it's supposed to be curly. :/

I am so glad I already have that short chain. It puts the scale exactly where it's supposed to be.

Pictures were taken by my mom once again because she's awesome.

"Grayscale" and its characters, plot, etc. belong to Demicoeur and Skiecrow, who also came up with the idea of making scale and feather pendants. I'm really interested to see what theirs look like, but I get the feeling we're only going to get pics once the summer 'cons Demi is selling them at are over.
